Introduction

GHG accounting verification and validation are what make an emissions claim credible. They exist to gather evidence strong enough to support — or decline — the claim an organisation puts forward.

The process runs through several stages. It begins with pre-engagement: understanding the client, defining scope and establishing communication. Selecting a competent team matters, because the expertise of the verifier shapes the quality of the assessment; the team then performs a strategic analysis to identify risk and set the approach.

Evidence gathering is the critical phase — reviewing documentation, conducting interviews, analysing systems and processes. On-site activities allow the team to observe operations, interact with staff and confirm that data collection methods are actually followed.

Participants learn to manage each step, from planning and executing the activities to preparing reports that reflect the findings accurately.
